LED Re-soldering

Post by Voice Of Reason »

The LED on my pre-refined Fly unsoldered over time. In fact, I never have seen it work (hence my questions). However, It does not look like it has broken off and may be re-usable.

My questions are:

- Can it be soldered back on without taking out the PCB? (I don’t solder, a tech would do it - I need to know in case he needs to take off the PCB).

- Does the light always turn on green momentarily once plugged in?

Any advice so as not to have it desolder/bump into other components? It seems too easy to misalign and bend it unwillingly.

The LED broke off on my earlier Deluxe and I resoldered it.
No need to remove the PCB.
The LED flashes Red, not green (mine). It will stay on if the battery is low and eventually fade and not turn on at all when the battery is dead.

Yeah green means it’s been replaced at some stage, they were all red AFAIK.

Is there a polarity where the LED needs to be re-soldered (i.e. those two tiny openings)?

Leds do have polarity.

Your tech should know or be able to figure it out, and if not, then maybe not the right person to do the repair. That said, 50/50 chance either way :D

Watch the iron temp, both for the health of the led and the aging pcb.

Thank you. I ask these kind of questions since the more troubleshoot info I gather in advance, the shorter the wait in the shop.

Sometimes, it has taken 3 months or more to get it my Fly back. There are not many guitar techs around taking jobs (and even fewer willing to work on Parker Fly).

Thanks again.

Yeah, I understand.

You might look for someone who builds stomp boxes nearby, maybe on Craigslist or post on one of the stompbox forums.

Should be an easy fix for them.
