Any love for the P series (import)?

Greetings.
I was a casual member of the old site and lost over a hundred posts, including info on a pickup and wiring change on this guitar.

I'm the owner of a beautiful MIK PM20 Red Bubinga finish which was apparently a limited production run according to info received from American Music.

I have a number of PDF's and misc info on the PM20 series which I can share if there's interest in starting a P series forum.

Cheers

Hey @Barry

Glad you’re here! Yes, I certainly recall your affinity for your PM20, and, while the primary focus of the Fly Clone Project largely deals with the Fly models, there is now a place for you and other P-Series fans here as well!

P Series Forum

We welcome and appreciate any and all contributions you can make to this newly created part of the forum! Thanks in advance!

My wife has a PM10, the build is so nice that it was one of the reasons why I took the plunge and bought my first Parker.

Thanks for the welcome and for the forum addition!
I'll root about in the dusty corners of my computer and see what I can find.

Perhaps moving this thread into the P forum would be helpful for continuity going forward? ;)

My wife's PM10 is so well built that you have to take it into a very bright light to see where the neck meets the body. The wood grain almost matches and the thin line of a seam is almost invisible.

The pickups are decent but nothing extraordinary. The SC tone is nice, the humbucker a little weak but definitely acceptable. The wiring in the cavity was done neatly with care, and the finish is on nice and thick.

The only thing I think that it could have used is hardened stainless frets. Not that the frets are inferior, it's just the stainless ones on my DF seem to never wear and I like that.

Hi Everyone,

New to this site. Jus pickup up an identical to the OP 2005 red Mappa burl (ltd) PM20 for 120 Euros over here in Germany as there was a crack in the headstock. Only 100 made worldwide in this colour! Careful gluing with Titebond and clamps and a spot of colour matching and it is back in operation. Very nice guitar..Definitely a keeper. Very different indeed to my other Humbucker equipped guitars, but very classy and so well made. It's on my "Korean made" hobby room wall .

Hi Barry,
I think it isn't Bubinga but Mappa burl veneer... Comes from the Italian Black poplar. Only 100 is this colour worldwide and we both have one in Transparent Red. Found this chat..

Congratulations on your PM-20, they are fantastic guitars!
Incidentally, does it say "Hornet" on the head stock?

That screen clip you're referencing looks like it came from my post here: viewtopic.php?t=67

Have a read through the spec sheet posted there for the PM-20 and there is no doubt that it is referenced as Quilted Bubinga. I rather doubt that they would have made a fraudulent claim about a feature such as this.

Mappa Burl is also known as European Black Poplar: https://www.bellforestproducts.com/mappa-burl/

In the case of my trans red, as mentioned several times in the Forum, this top and finish were a limited run confirmed in a telecon with AM. They could not however tell me how many were built.

I just know that mine is drop dead gorgeous!

Hi all.
I've just picked up a PM20 Hornet. It's a damned fine guitar for the price I've paid. Just wondering if anyone knows what the Hornet refers to - I've had a look in the catalog (2007) but unsure what the Hornet means. Thanks!

Hello Spicey and congrats on the new guitar, you're gonna love it!

There's a post somewhere in this forum which discusses the names found on the head stock. Mine also says "Hornet". Long story short, nobody really knows why it's on there. Best guess is that it was part of an abandoned marketing plan to make the guitar appear more "aggressive" or something.
