Awesome. This is the way.
Watch your heat though- easy to lift a pad.
If it’s not the 1044, I think there is another chip that sometimes whines too. Iirc the 1044 cone in a few varieties but I don’t think this poses a problem.
98 mahogany classic very faint piezo
98 Fly Classic very faint piezo and high-pitched sound
I was able to find what looks like an LTC1044 from a 9volt clock radio at the thrift store.
It didn’t say lct1044 but I tested pins 1 and 4 for 9v and it checked out.
Soldered it in and the squealing sound is gone and I have clean piezo (when I turn down the mags) but the piezo controls are not working.
Swapped my other ribbon with no change.
I’ll have to wait on the mail for a proper LTC1044 to see what the change is.
I’m SOOO happy about this!

Re: 98 mahogany classic very faint piezo
Awesome! I think the lt1044 puts out an inverted 9v too
So -9v on one of the pins.
If your piezo still doesn’t work after you get a known good part then I’d check the jack, your cable, etc. via continuity check with your meter.
But I think this was the problem based on your posts.

@billy,
Do you know what upper right hand corner numbers mean?
I’m still waiting on the mail.

Not sure, the data sheet might tell you if it’s something specific to the chip. Most likely it’s a lot code.
Make sure all your flex cables are fully seated and that they have no broken connections.
