PSA: Dimarzio caught up with direct orders.

Post by mmmguitar »

Dimarzio is now quoting two week production times on direct orders; for anyone wanting Fly versions of other Dimarzio pickups or just replacements.

Bump. For various reasons, folks in the FB group are complaining and claiming that Dimarzio no longer produces Fly pickups. I’ve yet to see this substantiated by more than accounts of user error. Until it is, here are the two most recent foolproof ways of ordering that I can vouch for:

-Shoot an email over to tech@Dimarzio.com and tell Steve you want to order [pickup model number here (e.g. DP163)] for Parker Fly.

-Message a reputable Dimarzio dealer (such as BanjoMikez) and let them know you’d like to order [pickup model name or number here] for Parker Fly. Note that, because dealers place bulk orders, it may take longer to get an order through a dealer than direct from Dimarzio if you’re in the US. Everywhere else in the world, you can order only through your local international dealer.

Out of curiosity, has anyone purchased these recently?

I asked Steve about Fly pickups at NAMM in 2018 or 2019, and he said they didn't do them, didn't want to do them, had zero interest in doing them, and go away...

I'd love to know if they really will build these. (Not that I need or want them, I have a set of GEN 1's just in case...)

@Laughinglarry, I last purchased Fly pickups through BanjoMikez in 2020. I mostly make my own by watching out for used F space Dimarzios I already know I like, then modifying them.

For whatever this listing is worth, Dimarzio appears to still be producing Gen 1 pickups.

Condition is listed as "Excellent, Used". They're not new...

BTW - I have a set of these in boxes, brand new, that I've had since 1999. So if you see ME selling a set, they're still not building them now. (That's NOT going to happen, but you get my point. ;) )

That’s what I get for trolling Reverb listings when I should be asleep . Looking at the listing now, it appears to be one of our own members who has bought a set of Gen 2s, swapped out the Gen 1s in his [I’m guessing black ‘98 Deluxe], and is selling the originals in the PHWP1 and 2 boxes. My apologies for fueling anyone’s false hopes.

Bump.

@Deke did us all a favor and got confirmation straight from the horse’s mouth:

DiMarzio sales just got back to me. Text Below. I tried to find a thread to post this update but could not find one. Please someone do so if there is one and this is new/relevant. DiMarzio agreed with you @mmmguitar :) Much, much cheaper than I ever had dared to hope!

I am sorry it’s taken so long to get back to you. Parker replacement pickups are available, although not to the exact models you listed. The construction of the Fly will cause an AT-1 to be much brighter-sounding than in a standard solid-body. I think you may get better results with a Gen 2 bridge pickup, which is warmer and a little louder than the first-gen bridge pickup. The model number is PHWP2.

There is no full-size humbucker with performance similar to the Cruiser, but you might get good results with the Fly version of the PAF Pro. The model number is PHW151. It will also be considerably brighter in a Fly than in a more standard guitar.

All Parker replacements can be ordered directly from us if you are in the US. MAP price in the US is $79.99 each plus shipping.

DiMarzio Inc.
