Fly pre-refined concentric piezo knob

Post by TalM »

Hi,

Trying to find a replacement dual stacked knob for the piezo on my 97 deluxe.
The closest I got is this:
https://proaudioland.com/bartolini-dc25 ... meter.html
I read in the "anatomy of a fly" post that this knob is not sourced or modelled yet so wondering if anyone can confirm if this one matches.

Thanks,

Tal.

Hi @TalM,

Yes, that’s a rather elusive one; I couldn’t find it in any catalog, but @Ken Parker did confirm that the other knobs are a catalog item; we’ve sourced those, obviously, but not the others.

The link you sent seems to show that the knob is “sold separately”, but, with only a quick look at their site, I was able to ultimately land at these:

https://www.bestbassgear.com/bartolini- ... ob-set.htm

The bottom part is not the same as the one on our Flys, but, together, I think they’re spot on. This particular link seems to have those knobs backordered, but I’ve put in an order right now regardless, and I’ll confirm once they arrive.

Thanks VJ,

You ordered one really quick. hehe.

It will be great if it appears to be a good fit and a suitable replacement.

By the way, I saw your new short youtube video on the spring/step stop "contraption".
Just what I needed to get comfortable enough to try and change the spring myself.

Thanks again,

Tal

Yeah, @TalM; I love exploring these things! If it ends up fitting, we'll try to find out who makes them and source it direct. :o

I'm so glad that was helpful! I feel strongly that the Fly vibrato bridge is a fantastic design, but wowza--looking at it can be really puzzling! What a cool design though, right?! To me, now that I'm used to setting one up, it's such an easy-to-use system, and it's just rock solid! No issues with returning to "zero" or anything like that!

Let's hope we will be able to source another element.
Now I need to gather my courage to change the spring myself.

Okay I did it.... wow it was scary first time...
Funny thing. I got the guitar with a 10 gauge spring with the intonation way way way off.
Changed to 09 slowly and carefully following instructions from both manual and forum. Intonation is perfect without touching a saddle. ;)

[Here it is][

Thanks 8-)

Hey @TalM and everyone,

FYI--I can confirm that this knob does fit with the stacked pot on our Flys, but, while it's a fine knob, you probably wouldn't want to buy this one for a Fly as it's more of a hard plastic than a soft rubber material like the other knobs. It's also slightly bulkier, and, if I had this on my Fly, I'd be somewhat concerned that the plastic bottom on the knob would touch and thus scratch the finish.
