Re: Squeaky Trem

Thanks Marc. I have a spare 10 spring so I’ll stick it in there and see if it handles. Might do the trick. In 3 weeks when I’m back! Did you ever get a chance to investigate this further, by chance? I was going to add the "SpringIssues" hashtag, then realized we never narrowed down the so...

Re: Squeaky Trem

The "creaks like an old door" description makes me suspect your flat spring is showing its age. If swapping in another spring alleviates the creaking, then that may indicate that at least one of the noisy spring's edges in contact with the ridge plate or T bar has worn enough that you're h...

Mojo Fly Tremolo/ Tuning Issue

It sounds like that spring is failing unfortunately. If you block the bridge with a piece of wood instead of the spring, does it still lose tuning? Something like this should help us rule out if the neck or the bridge itself is doing something unusual: https://flyclone.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=45...

Using different string gauge set than vibrato spring

The main issue would be if you want to “float” the vibrato as described in the manual —it will not work properly. If you tighten the spring and only intend to bend down (or not at all), it will be fine. Each spring (rated 8, 8.5, 9, 10, 11, 12) was designed to support a specific tension, and, as suc...

Balanced String Set/Bridge Issues

Hi Voice of Reason ; in principle, there’s nothing wrong with the bridge like that—I have a Fly like that. However, that same Fly has some neck issues. It’s not a big deal once it’s set up and working, but, in addition to DLQ s thoughts, I’d just add: -Check to see that bridge floats properly and th...

Three-ridge plate not touching step-stop

Physically, if the angle between the trem and the perpendicular plate where the three-ridge spring plate screws into, is 90 degrees, and the trem’s pivoting point has not moved, then regardless of spring’s health or how the guitar is tuned, the three-ridge plate should always touch the step-stop wh...

Vibrato bridge is leaning forward

Hi THN , I’ve encountered this issue before, and, if you’re certain you’ve set the bridge up properly, and that the spring and the string gauge are matched, then I’m fairly confident the issue is that your spring is failing, sorry to say. You can block the bridge with a wood block or continue to tun...
