Re: Fly Bass (FB-4) History and Manual

I was looking at some on Reverb at a much higher price point. I'm glad I didn't pay 3k for one (thanks god I asked first). I'm going to check ebay and craigslist. $1800 definitely sounds very reasonable to my ears

Re: Fly Bass (FB-4) History and Manual

What can I reasonably be expected to pay for an FB4 in Very Good or Excellent condition? I know nothing about basses in general, and I've never had a Parker bass of any kind. I'm thinking on buying one if only to satisfy my curiosity and maybe sell it back into the market or trade it for a Fly guita...

Re: Vibrato (Balanced/Floating) Bridge with Short Edge (Fly)

I contacted the company by email to see if they can make the original all black rubber knobs, which I figure is the same they have today without the added white or blue paint.

Re: Vibrato (Balanced/Floating) Bridge with Short Edge (Fly)

By the way, I don't know if you're aware of the sourcing for the concentric knobs. I checked the Anatomy of the Fly page and it says "source forthcoming". Here is what I found:

Re: Vibrato (Balanced/Floating) Bridge with Short Edge (Fly)

Two of my deluxes show some discoloration on the bridge (very typical with the Flys). Is there any specific paint or primer that would be ideal to restore a bridge to its original matte black? Has anyone figured out how these bridges were painted and what sort of paint was used. I wouldn't like to t...

Re: Fly Pickups (Gen 1, Gen 2, and Other)

Hey @Alejandro; I can measure mine, but, in principle, I keep them as low as they go. I use 10s and I have the action as low as they go as well. Yes, @vjmanzo Whenever you can, measure your pickup heights (in 32nds or 64ths) for the sweet spot, sonically speaking (if there is such thing). I've hear...

Re: Fly Pickups (Gen 1, Gen 2, and Other)

@vjmanzo I know this is a matter of taste and personal preference, but what's a sweet spot for the pickup height (as measured from the top of the poles to the strings in 32nds/inch fretting at 24)? I currently have around 4/32 on the low E and 3/32 on the high E at the bridge pickup.

Re: Marc Wants To Buy...

To be honest (and feel free to school me; I know you have better information), --I'm not so sure you can get the original Gen1 humbuckers through DiMarzio. This is very interesting and I wanted to ask you: My understanding is the original Parker humbuckers had ceramic magnets. My understanding is th...

Re: Marc Wants To Buy...

So now that the price of the humbuckers is known (at least the price for which they sold), the question that arises is: was the buyer a lunatic who overpaid for the humbuckers? The answer could be Yes if we were in the year 2000. No one wanted the Gen1 humbuckers and plenty of people "upgraded&...

Re: Marc Wants To Buy...

Going back to the original topic of the humbuckers, it is a fact that they sold at the listing price, because there was no Offer button available.

There was simply no other way to buy them but at the listing price.

Re: Marc Wants To Buy...

@vjmanzo I don't think you understand me. Please see the images I posted above. Also please compare these two images between the cellphone app and the website. I sold the galaxy gray with one offer that was submitted to me. You can't see the offer amount neither on the website nor on the app. But on...

Re: Marc Wants To Buy...

@vjmanzo No VJ. I think you're referring to the cellphone app and how it displays items that are sold. When you use the cellphone app, you can't see if the item sold through an "offer accepted" or of it sold at the original price. All you see is that the item sold, and you get a view of wh...

Re: Marc Wants To Buy...

I hear what you’re saying, Alejandro. I think it’s worth noting that reverb doesn’t show the final selling price, only the listing price; I think that was the point that mmmguitar was making when he referred to it as a $300 listing. No, you're right. Reverb doesn't show the taxes paid on that purch...

Re: Marc Wants To Buy...

That link appears to be a $300 listing for a set of pre-refined knobs that the seller used to offload a $100 set of pickups at the same time. I’ll be surprised If the buyer didn’t immediately try to flip the Gen 1s. Well, look again. It's a $400 pair of humbuckers with a free "gift" of pr...

Re: Marc Wants To Buy...

You're right. These things are hard to prove conclusively, so there is a lot of subjective opinions. Whether the 'new interest' is really new or just a bunch of 30-somethings being able to buy their first Flys it's hard to say; but the price is going up (regardless), and they're really paying for it...
