The Three-ridge Spring Plate and How the Vibrato Feels
Interesting regarding the spring's position on the three-ridge spring plate. I figured this was related more to the tension on the spring than the feel. Though admittedly I haven't searched much on this topic, I did do a little looking around for more info related to this and struck out. With this ...

Re: A few questions from a new Fly owner
My issue is that with a 2022 NOS 9 spring installed, and 009 strings on the guitar, I have to be backed out to almost nothing on the tension wheel for it to balance out while tuned to E standard. Did you buy this spring on Reverb from “ Billy’s Shop ”? And was that how it was described in the listi...

Re: A few questions from a new Fly owner
Hi DownRight —and happy to hear that you’re happy with your Mojo! My issue is that with a 2022 NOS 9 spring installed, and 009 strings on the guitar, I have to be backed out to almost nothing on the tension wheel for it to balance out while tuned to E standard. In short, the spring you have is not b...

Re: Which Nitefly is it ?
Hi @tcmm—yours is the second one on the top of the first page—NFV2 (no M—I’ve corrected my earlier post):
The passive piezo system in that NiteFly does not require a battery and was originally paired with a NiteMix.

Re: Floating trem system feels "tight"?
Hi @jzacharia—have you checked the angle of the spring in the three-ridge spring slot? The slot deepest inside the instrument (furthest from you) will feel stiffer than the slot closest to you.

I love this post so much!!! 🧡🔥 Congrats, Marc!!! I know you’ve been looking for this unicorn for a long time, and wow—it’s so cool!!! I admit that it wasn’t until I read this incredible post (thanks so much for writing this!) that I’d underestimated a lot of the uniqueness of this Fly variant. Such ...

Re: Rare Parker models?
Hi Soloaxer —2003 was a transitional time in the sense that, in the fall it was foretold that everything from Wilmington was soon to be loaded onto a flatbed and hauled to Illinois. According to the history thread , USM was using Flys that were mostly made in Wilmington during 2004 and 2005, so I th...

Re: “What’s This Worth?” Thread
…auction listings without a reserve (as opposed to Buy It Now and Reverb listings) are some sort of market indicator, right? This ‘93 Fly Deluxe (black hardtail) just sold via eBay auction (not Buy It Now) with original gig bag for $1476 w/free shipping out of Massachusetts. IMG_0770.jpeg IMG_0769....

Re: Step Stop (refined Fly)
Will do—we did a pilot where we sold a few printed models through online printing services, but they all charged a hefty markup, so we released the models with a CC non-commercial license. Not a final solution, but something. Now if I could just figure out how to work these quotes in correctly :oops...

Very cool, @Soloaxer. Glad that worked out!
Yes, we have a repository of models if you ever need another printed—you can download the file and take it to your local library and have it printed.

Re: S2 for sale on Reverb
Of course!
I’m excited—I’ve never played an S2 and I’m curious about what that neck pickup sounds like!
After I put a flex PCB in there—and maybe swap the bridge pickup for the original—it should be good as new! More soon!

Removing a Vibrato Arm Bushing (refined Fly)
I've had success removing a vibrato arm bushing with a roll pin punch set like this . Screen Shot 2023-09-07 at 5.30.01 PM.png The idea is that you'd put one of these punches on the underside of the bushing (accessible on the back of the Fly) and then lightly hammer the punch to push the bushing out...

Re: How worried should I be?
Thanks for posting those. In the few other instruments I’ve seen like this, a new fingerboard was added—it appears, here, that the new frets were hammered into the layers of composite material and the wood. Interesting…

Re: How worried should I be?
…I quickly realised someone actually refretted this with normal nickel frets that have tangs! 🤔 I’ve seen maybe two or three examples of someone scrapping the existing fretboard and hammering in nickel frets—it’s a lot of work to pull off and obviously the instrument loses some of the hot sauce of ...
