They feel a tad stiffer, and they have that "piano string" kind of bell-like tone. Love them.

What I don’t understand is why are we assuming pots and switches are OK?
I have a spare preamp. I keep it as a spare but I’m not unwilling to sell it if it helps a fellow Flyer.
But I would not assume anything. Test and test again. To me, the preamp is the least likely offender.

I've been consulting with my local guitar/amp tech. He found 2 broken wires in flexible PCB that he says only affect piezo tone control. Hmmm, maybe, maybe not. I would suspect that the jack switch which senses a plug inserted is defective. To check this, check continuity on the battery connector with and without an instrument cable connected. You might have to repair/replace the input jack.

One thing I would suggest is that after you have installed your strings, you push down on the string just north of the saddle. The G string is stiffer than the E and B strings, and therefore will retain some elasticity at the saddle break. If you push down on it, the string will break in a little be...
