Builder Profile: Ken Parker Archtops

Here's a really good interview in the current issue of Premier Guitar Magazine with Ken Parker's on how he builds his archtops. Just amazing ingenuity and engineering going on there! Some of it is just mind blowing stuff. Enjoy: https://www.premierguitar.com/gear/builder-profile-ken-parker-a...

Re: Any love for the P series (import)?

Congratulations on your PM-20, they are fantastic guitars! Incidentally, does it say "Hornet" on the head stock? That screen clip you're referencing looks like it came from my post here: https://flyclone.com/viewtopic.php?t=67 Have a read through the spec sheet posted there for the PM-20 a...

A (Very) Poor Man's Fly!

Ya say you've been gasping for a Fly forever? Ya say you can't find one that costs less than a new Buick? Ya say you'd sell your ancient Norwegian grandmother for one? Say, here's an idea. . . I was scrolling through a local guitar dealer's website, looking at pickups and other goodies in my PJ's, y...

Re: Maintenance Kit

If you suspect a fret problem I would recommend a Fret Rocker as a quick check for high frets. It's an accurate check for "levelness". The one from (who else?) StewMac is excellent but rather pricey, but you can buy a knock off elsewhere for less or simply use any appropriately sized strai...

Re: Presentation and question

Very nice Jose, I love the tangerine colour. If you haven't removed the vinyl yet I would warm it up with a hair dryer first. It should peel off. Any glue residue can be removed with GooGone and light scraping with a credit card. You can also soften it up with vegetable oil. It will take longer to w...

Re: Pickup Magnetization

Rewinding is major surgery so, yup, always wise to do the simple things first (assuming you've already slapped a multimeter on this bad boy and checked resistance, induction and all that good stuff).

Re: Removing sticker residue from a PDF

I'd support that approach except I'd save the Naptha for final cleanup. It tends to flash off too quickly to be used as an initial application. GooGone works very well and smells better! :P If you'd rather not get involved with chemicals, you can use plain old vegetable oil which is probably already...

Re: P90 Pickups

The P90 is the bacon of pickups. . . everything tastes better with it! Hey Notes My #1 guitar is a '64 Gibson ES-330 TD with P90's too! Bought it new (yikes!) I played it live and in the studio for years so I guess it's in my DNA at this point. I have a few other P90 equipped guitars as we...

...Haven't Epoxied it in place YET but it's ready too... Hi Gary. Like everyone else here I've been enjoying your pain in restoring this battered git! :D And I must say that the Energizer Bunny has nothing on you!! The only thing that has me a little concerned is your use of Epoxy rather than, for ...

PM20 Posts From Original Parker Forum 2005 & 2006

I was sorting through my electric sock drawer. . .ya know, like ya do, and I re-discovered some HTML pages I saved back in 2011 from the original Parker Guitar Forums ! It was soon after I had picked up my PM20 and I was looking to see what people had done by way of mods to it. These are from...

Yup.
I didn't used to think so, then I picked up a Vintage brand VRS100 (PRS copy):

Very nice, BUT. . .
[rant]
It would be a whole lot nicer if the seller would clean the flippin' crap off it and polish it before offering it for sale!
I just don't get why people do this, you wouldn't sell your car with dirty windows and covered in dust and mud would ya?!

Re: WANTED: PM20 Pro

No, not new but as good as. I purchased it from a young fellow whose dad bought it for him to learn guitar on. Nice dad! The lad then decided he'd rather play drums! It had barely been touched, so definitely no re-fret was done. Without digging back through a couple of terabytes of storage info (!) ...
