Adrian Belew Elevator Tour
Adrian Belew will be in Atlanta at the end of the month. I don't venture into the city often, but the wife and I might venture out for this one. What say you? Brave the drive through the hood and back for a night out, or stay home with the kids?

Re: Local Tech/Repair Resource:
Sorry VJ.
I'm in the metro Atlanta area, but honestly I've had people send me guitars from as far as Germany and Sweden for service before.
But locally if you are in the South Eastern United States, come see me!

https://www.facebook.com/skyetheflyguy/ Just in case y'all don't already know. I've been a luthier specializing in repairs and restorations for the last 20 years. I have literally been planning on having my chiropractor x ray my fly. Guess I wasn't the only one.

Ultra and FM9 here. I don't think we'll be seeing new hardware for a few more years yet. I mean we're almost two years into the FM9 announcement and still haven't even gotten through the first day of the wait-list! That said, I don't see how this thing can really sound any better at this point, and ...

Re: Total Refurbish of Trashed Fly Deluxe
Your instinct not to route the veneer is correct, you'll blow it out worse than an 80s hairdo. There's nothing wrong with sanding it down flush, that would be the safe route. The fast way would be a very sharp chisel or knife, but be aware of the grain orientation and how your working your cutting s...

That's about where I'm at with it as well. The only thing I have to lose is time and money, and I only care about one of those anyways.

Re: Chrome vinyl wrap
That's exactly what I'm afraid of. The Fly has lots of tight radii and odd shaped holes and cut outs all over the place. And that wasn't even a "hard to work with" chrome wrap. I'm still not talked down front the ledge yet though! How crafty would you say you are 1-10? I'd rate myself a so...

Chrome vinyl wrap
So after seeing that chrome fly in the springs thread, I can't stop thinking about how incredible that would look on stage, photos, or on video. My fly is a 98 red classic, 9/10 cosmetically. It's my main guitar, and though the translucent blood red over mahogany finish is damn near flawless after 3...

I like how the seller described it as good cosmetic condition.

That's primer, so no the translucent mojo won't have that.

Redneckatron, always Redneckatron. Redneckatron is life.
Also watched Stop Making Sense last night with my wife (her first time seeing it) so I've had psycho killer and life during wartime in my head all day.
But ALWAYS Redneckatron.

Re: Springs
So they made those springs in house? Or were they made by a third party who has since destroyed the equipment?
Is there any documentation on this machine, pictures, time stamps you see it in a video? Where did the bar stock come from? Lots of questions that should be able to be answered I'd hope.

Re: Springs
So I had a dream last night, one I thought I'd share. I've been dwelling lately on Fly construction. I'm no stranger to building instruments, having been a self employed luthier for 15 years or so, done lots of restoration and repairs, and worked in manufacturing high end archtop guitars. The past 5...

Re: Not a Parker
I'm fully expecting to setup the guitar with a fresh set of nyxls, assuming it passes my QC inspection. I hate GC, and am prepared to receive anything from a flawless guitar, to a molested moldy rust bucket. But that 45 day return window and the good price sold me (well, my lovely wife anyways). Fin...

Re: Not a Parker
I've looked at the keisels pretty seriously in the past. Not a fan of the trem they're married to at the end of the day. And that's enough to keep me from pulling the trigger on one. But I spent the last couple days looking at used Majesty's, watched a few review videos with the wife, and the next t...

Re: Not a Parker
I'm seriously considering it. I wasn't aware guitar center allowed returns on used gear, that might be a very viable option to try one in house to see if it'll scratch my itch. They're definitely pretty sweet on paper. My wife asked to see my 7 string so I brought it home tonight. She commented that...
