Re: Pre-refined Fly Classic questions

-At some point, is it worth locating and restoring an original Preamp and cable/ribbon/pcb set and the stacked tone/vol? Do the original preamps sound any better? Do they failed often? -The vibrato bar is hexagonal and is heavy, but it sits much too high for my tastes. Plus I don't like the upward ...

Re: Parker Fly Deluxe vs Mojo

Here’s a few tidbits: - Expect a heavier instrument with a thicker body/neck. - Expect more low end on the Mojo (with the Seymour Duncans and the all-mahogany construction). - Expect to find switches and several components that are failing (and/or of lesser quality). This is especially true if compa...

Re: String tension during dive bomb

With the divebomb tuning, I was seeing low E, G, and B a quarter-step sharp after each dive bomb, but after a number of detunings of those strings with dives, they were all in harmony. Which is why I have been experimenting with string brands (and of course stretching as Marc detailed). NYXLs impro...

Re: How To Fix a Stuck Vibrato Arm Set Screw

N.b. I take it fluttering has never been possible at all with the Parker vibrato system? A couple years back, I had started looking into the mechanics of what is actually fluttering, but I didn’t get very far. Do you know for certain if it’s the bar? The bridge itself? The spring? Some combination ...

Re: How To Fix a Stuck Vibrato Arm Set Screw

2) the bushing has a smaller interior dimension at its deepest point, so a vibrato arm that is bent slightly will go into the bushing at an angle and, in principle, stay put. Thank you VJ. My bar would stay put even before being slightly bend (i.e. even when I bought the guitar in 2007). I suppose ...

Re: How To Fix a Stuck Vibrato Arm Set Screw

Well, I have followed the directions and the set screw moves freely. However, it makes no difference whatsoever in the arm adjustment. Before I go nuts and over-lubricate everything, could one explain me how this is supposed to work? I mean my arm isn’t overly stiff and stays in place at all time. A...

Re: Hace unos 16 años que la tengo y ahora quiero aprender

The only place i've found for my fly is third guitar coast in chicago, but it is a hell of expensive just to send it there. I'll keep trying to find any place closer to me, but if not...any advice for sending my Fly, to chicago, safe an cheap? I doubt cheap is possible. Safely, yes…with insurance a...

Re: LED Re-soldering

Leds do have polarity. Your tech should know or be able to figure it out, and if not, then maybe not the right person to do the repair. That said, 50/50 chance either way :D Watch the iron temp, both for the health of the led and the aging pcb. Thank you. I ask these kind of questions since the mor...

Thank you kind sir. We will try with Liquid Wrench first. If not, I’ll try to follow up on your suggestion.

Having Kroil shipped here is “nuts”.

Re: Parker Fly PPG Paint Codes

Repainting from scratch seems excessive (in my case).

:?: Has anyone had convincing results in repairing paint chips on a Fly?

N.b. We’re talking about chips on the front of the body (thus not due to de-laminating).

Is there a polarity where the LED needs to be re-soldered (i.e. those two tiny openings)?

This prompts me to try this again on my own. We don’t have Kroil in Canada (at least it’s very pricey). Found some Liquid Wrench (which is rare here as well). Fingers crossed.

Did you have to reapply oil more than once?

If you still have the original PCB, it could be something as simple as a loose solder joint.

It looks great, especially with the fretboard. It sure is a one of a kind.

Does the painted fingerboard hinder playability on the fretboard?

Thanks for the find Patzag!

I always wanted to see more footage of Ken walking us through/working on the original Fly. That should be crunchy.

Re: What type of music does everybody here play?

I’m (almost) all leads and… figuring out riffs more recently. As long as the guitar is one of the lead instruments, I’m in (fusion, prog, prog-metal, etc.). I think Buckethead is a genius. As for coming up with riffs…most memorable riffs came up during warm-up/jamming. It’s important to keep making ...

Re: Strings - I tried NYXL and was disappointed

Well, those in-between gauges sure pose limitations. However, if you really feel like trying something else, you could always put together a custom set using single strings (e.g. Strings by mail). The Cobalts are supposedly very bright (and the wound strings are available in your preferred gauge). T...
