Re: Pickup tone sounds tinny.
@mikejcurtis, we’d also be happy to listen to a recorded example; just in case the tinny sound is anything more than dialing in the new guitar for your rig.

Re: Guide: Fly Sustainiac Installation
Bump. Here's how to consolidate the Sustainer on/off and normal/octave-up switching to a single tone control pot, as the Adrian Belew Fly does: You need to modify a dual gang push-pull pot. Because Bourns seems to produce the only readily available one, that's what I'm using. You can modify a standa...

Re: “What’s This Worth?” Thread
This heavily modified Emerald Green '95 Deluxe (253145BP) with Alan Hoover-installed Sustainiac and holes from a GK pickup popped up on Reverb ten hours ago for $2,480. The seller is including the Gen 1 neck and clipped ribbon assembly components so that the guitar "can be restored to original&...

Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
Crazy question. Does a "best" parts list exist of exactly which parts to get to replicate a pre-refined fly? I love my 'new' guitar but to my ear there seems to be something missing that makes my '96classic sound so robust. ( I guess I should have asked that question in my initial post). ...

Re: PDF85 wiring questions
Right now I am trying to figure out why I have a bit of a whine/hum when going through an amp or using the wireless on my pod go. If I plug directly into the pod there is no noise[...]is it possible the 9v is backfeeding through the system somehow? Just to be clear: Your signal path is Fluence pick...

Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
I've got some VintageVibe Charlie Christians I'd love to try pop in one of these days, yet another project. Please let me/us know how you like them. I have a Fly bridge pickup wound by Pete, and have held off on asking him to wind a jazz neck pickup because all my current Flys have Sustainiacs. The...

Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
The really weird thing is that the volume pot for the piezo and the magnetic pickups turn in opposite directions to increase the volume. I hadn't noticed until it was all assembled. If you swap the outside lug connections for the pot gang sweeping in reverse, it should then be wired right-handed. I...

Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
from your drawing I’m not sure where the summed piezo wire goes when it enters the control cavity. The most recent drawing is a different circuit for if you want to try a 25k tone pot; in which the summed piezo lead wire is soldered to the input soldering pad on the Powerchip, and a jumper wire sol...

Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
Let's figure out the tone pot first: I tried the 250k concentric pot wired as described[...]and no change to tone. Per your post on the previous page, the project you're troubleshooting is a PDF70 with GraphTech Ghost saddles. How are the saddles being summed together, and how are you connecting the...

Re: New guy, 98 Deluxe, 1 owner
Welcome, timshephard , and thanks for the fun background info about your Fly. Unless I’m misunderstanding, you’re having an issue getting the trem to balance against the step-stop block with a 9-42 string set using the 9-rated spring (and have had to shim it to close the distance), and are also inte...

Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
I'm guessing the top 3 lugs are the volume pot with the 22k resistor bridging the outside lugs. Yes. Where it says 'solder wires to old PCB connection' do I solder all 3 vol pot lugs to the old connections or just lugs 1 & 2 All three. You're swapping a new volume pot 1:1 to the old pot's board...

Re: Looking for Pre refined electronics
I'm looking for replacement parts for all of the pcb type components. Any informations or hints welcome. If you're attempting a 1:1 restoration project, that's going to be difficult; because the iteration of the preamp used in the 1990's has not been produced for many years, and has not officially ...

Re: Nfv4 bridge mods possible?
Bump. For anyone curious, I did eventually confirm that the USM saddles from my 2011 Fly fit my 1997 Fly's bridge - Meaning I can't speak to the nature of the production spec or tolerances which caused jserrins' issue with his Nitefly bridge being too narrow for the USM saddles (I don't have a '90s ...

Re: 1997 Fly
So I take it the pre-amp didn't change between the 97 (Gen 1 PUs) and the 98 (Gen 2 PUs) - can someone confirm? - the schematics on this website don't seem to betray any change to the pre-amp and therefore I should be able to simply do a direct replacement of Gen 2s if I go that route, eh? Because ...

I had been watching these listings in recent months: Cherry '96 Classic w/GK pickup holes, 278026BMH, was withdrawn from sale after sitting for five months with no offers (The seller was asking $2,510). Though it's a beater, the conspicuous absence of the marker-side of the first five frets in photo...

Re: WTB a black on-off-on toggle that's not a mini switch
JimmyFly , You can make your own the same way the USM Parker Factory did; by modifying the center contacts of a common off-on-off pickup selector switch design (pictured below) so that it's on-off-on: on off on.jpeg Left: On-Off-On Right: Off-On-Off This article goes into a bit more detail. Here's ...

Re: LOST: 1999 Fly Artist Natural
Being as I don't know the finer details, I'm hoping this is similar to when UPS sent me a box of cookies and claimed it was my Supreme (in that I did end up receiving the guitar and an apology from the hub manager). In my previous experience(s) with having guitars stolen, a police report is necessar...

Re: PDF85 wiring questions
The Fluence kit came with a few caps and an active output jack. Though I'm unsure of which kit you purchased, the included caps should be for the 25k tone pot(s), and the jack will be redundant to the one already in your PDF because the "active" output jack is distinguished by a contact l...
