Re: Troubleshooting bridge pickup that stopped working

Original pickup re-installed, all readings in spec and it's working beautifully again. I'll keep that humbucker I ordered as a spare incase the problem comes back one day.

I can't thank you enough for all of the help @mmmguitar.

Re: Troubleshooting bridge pickup that stopped working

The next step after that would be desoldering the green/bare wires from the common ground lug and separating them to see if you get the full 16-17k reading from the pickup's black and green wires (indicating a cold or cracked solder joint at ground having caused these gremlins). If there's still a ...

Re: Troubleshooting bridge pickup that stopped working

With the red/white wires desoldered from the middle lug of the tone pot's DPDT, (confirming that they're still connected to each other) I am still getting a null reading between them and the common ground. You can try repositioning/angling the bridge pickup's wire bundle with the guitar plugged in, ...

Re: Troubleshooting bridge pickup that stopped working

A couple additional updates. With the volume up on my amp quite a bit, I've discovered that there is no scenario where I'm truly getting "no sound"... but it is extremely faint to the point where at normal playing volume it is very hard to hear with the push/pull in the "down" po...

Re: Troubleshooting bridge pickup that stopped working

Good morning mmmguitar Thanks for the info... your picture matches my Mojo exactly from what I can tell, but here's a picture of mine as well in case anything stands out: IMG_0435.jpg Here are the results of my testing with my multimeter set to 20kΩ: Measuring between the pickup selector switch conn...

Re: Troubleshooting bridge pickup that stopped working

So everything works with the push-pull “up” to split the pickups but, with it down, the only issue is the absence of bridge humbucker signal? Yes that's exactly correct. Does the selector switch middle position ground the entire signal - or does it sound the same as selecting the neck humbucker by ...

Re: Troubleshooting bridge pickup that stopped working

Oh interesting discovery... the problem is only present with the push-pull knob in the in position.

The neck pickup works as expected in either position.

Troubleshooting bridge pickup that stopped working

Hello all, Suddenly tonight while playing my 2003 Mojo, the bridge pickup stopped working. I'm not quite sure what's going on, and am hoping you might be able to help me troubleshoot the problem. I've opened up the back and have confirmed all of the wires from the pickup are still connected. I caref...

Re: Piezo heard with 3-pos switch in mag only position

Thanks for the reply @mmmguitar. Makes sense, and honestly, I can probably live with it as is since it's pretty subtle. The next time I have it apart I'll take a closer look and see if I can spot the culprit.

Piezo heard with 3-pos switch in mag only position

Hello all, I was hoping you could share your thoughts with me about something that I recently noticed with my 2003 Mojo. Settings: Mag volume = 0 Piezo volume = 10 Mag/Piezo 3-way = Piezo only With the above settings, the piezo is (faintly) heard. If I reverse the above (mag=10, piezo=0, mag/piezo=m...

Re: A few questions from a new Fly owner

You got me thinking, a couple of months ago I bought two of these (NOS 2022 9s gauge) from the same reverb store. I haven't tried any of these as I bought them as backup. The original 9's gauge springs my Flys came with are perfect for 10-38s in standard D, I can balance the bridges no problem but ...

Re: A few questions from a new Fly owner

vjmanzo mmmguitar I just thought I'd share with you guys what the spring (NOS 9 2022) & tension knob look like after balancing a set of NYXL 10-46's tuned to E standard. I'm guessing this is closer to what you'd expect to see with a set of 9-42's? I'll have the new spring tomorrow and will see ...

Re: "Bullwinkle" guitar hanger

Hah, I found mine and of course, you're absolutely right... that's all it takes for these to work really well with a Fly neck and it looks like if you rest the first tuner on the back of the rest, there's no chance that it could slip and interfere with the strings.

Re: "Bullwinkle" guitar hanger

The guitar stand I use - same as yours - came with a pair of spacers to make the neck opening smaller - as if to fit a banjo. It is small enough to hold my Fly in place without bullwinkle. The tuner rests on the grip and holds the guitar up. I'll put up a photo when I get a chance. Interesting, I'm...

Re: "Bullwinkle" guitar hanger

Hello all, Well, the reference I used to model the previous version was waaaaaay off. I wonder if it was the Bass model or something. I've since re-designed it using my own measurements since I now have my Fly to reference, and have uploaded the "beta" version here on Thingiverse ;) All in...

Re: A few questions from a new Fly owner

mmmguitar Thank you for the info... Later today when work dies down, I'll plan to remove the tension from the strings and spring, and attempt to back out the action screws completely. I'll report back either way with my findings, but will take your WD-40 advice if it turns out to be corrosion relat...

Re: A few questions from a new Fly owner

My issue is that with a 2022 NOS 9 spring installed, and 009 strings on the guitar, I have to be backed out to almost nothing on the tension wheel for it to balance out while tuned to E standard. Did you buy this spring on Reverb from “ Billy’s Shop ”? And was that how it was described in the listi...

Re: A few questions from a new Fly owner

mmmguitar Absolutely happy to post some pictures. And thank you for reaching out... I very much appreciate your help! Your post seems to be saying that the "9"-rated spring is so stiff that the tension wheel must be completely loosened in order for the tension of a 9-42 set of strings to ...
