Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
Crazy question. Does a "best" parts list exist of exactly which parts to get to replicate a pre-refined fly? I love my 'new' guitar but to my ear there seems to be something missing that makes my '96classic sound so robust. ( I guess I should have asked that question in my initial post).

Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
And of course switching the leads on the piezo pot worked perfectly.

Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
I currently have them on a Strandberg Boden 6 and love them. I play everything through a Henriksen Bud 10 amp which makes anything sound amazing so maybe I’m not the best judge.

Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
I'll make the necessary tweak to that pot connection. Thanks. Your comments have been invaluable and I will at some point do another remod on this guitar to do the full Fly Classic update. This was a good learning project. The nice thing about these Fly models are that they are relatively cheap, eas...

Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
After rewiring to the more common pot/cap config I tested several cap values and all of them seemed to cut the volume by at least a third. By the time I had cranked the tone to its highest resistance the volume disappeared too. PDF70.jpg After all that experimentation I decided I liked the piezo sou...

Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
So you’ve inspired me to add jumper leads to the pot with alligator clips to try out different sized caps but from your drawing I’m not sure where the summed piezo wire goes when it enters the control cavity. I see only a connection from the center tone lug to the pcb. The pic has the 3 vol leads go...

Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
Getting so close. I tried the 250k concentric pot wired as described with the 20k resistor and the volume did not behave properly and no change to tone. I swapped out the 250k pot with a 20k resistor for a 25k concentric pot. The volume works properly but there seems to be no change in tone or not p...

Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
Today was mod day for the PDF70. I exchanged the DuncanUSM's for the original Fly Dimarzios, replaced the stock saddles with Ghost Parker Piezo saddles and attached the unaltered Fishman powerchip. They work! To replace the Fishman 20k vol pot with a 250k concentric pot I revisited the forum only to...

WTB a black on-off-on toggle that's not a mini switch
I'm adding a Ghost piezo bridge to my PDF70. The kit comes with a mini on-off-on toggle for Mag/Both/Piezo. I'm trying to find a black standard size on-off-on black toggle that matches my magnetic selector toggle. Pls help.

proud new owner of 2011 PDF70 white - mint!
Wow, i really like this guitar but I have some questions. I'm trying to lower the action but both allen adjustment screws stop before I get to my desired height. Is this normal and can anything be done? Also, I'll be adding a Graphtech piezo. Any recommendations or advice? Seems straight forward. Th...

Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
Wow great reply. I contacted Fishman last week and learned my measurement was off. The Powerchip volume pot is actually 20k linear as someone had pointed out in the forum earlier (so much info in here). I had asked the same question about a capacitor recommendation and no one has responded yet.

Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
As mentioned earlier, I was able to purchase an audio 10k concentric pot to replace the 10k volume pot attached to the Fishman power chip board.
My question is, what size cap do I use on the tone pot for the piezo?

Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
In Dec '22 my intent was to build a guitar replicating my '96Fly Classic. That changed with the recent purchase of a Strandberg Boden Standard 6. I love the guitar design, neck, etc but underwhelmed by the electronics so I've gutted it to add the original Fly Dimarzio pickups, Fishman Powerchip and ...

Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
3M and Pat, thanks so much! Ideally I'd like the same set up as a the Fly. I will apologize up front as I am way out of my wheelhouse so if I ask dumb or redundant questions, pls forgive. For background I mostly play jazz standards through a solidstate henriksen jazz amp so I love the neck pickup an...

Re: Replicate Fly piezo electronics
3M, thanks for your suggestions! Lots to chew on here. I've seen some disappointing reviews about the powerchip and you provide some nice alternatives.

Re: P44 with quiet piezo
VJ, thanks for your suggestion. I opened up the back and found a small yellow adjustment switch on the piezo pot which seems to help a lot. Back to my happy place.
