Re: “What’s This Worth?” Thread
Marc, what % of used Flys for sale would you estimate have the completely chipped out finish somewhere? Because whenever I look it seems like the answer is "nearly all of them" which (I hope) is selection bias created by flip-scammers flipping and reflipping the same pool of fair condition...

Re: Pricing of a mint Parker Fly Supreme 05'
Agreed, although my taste has changed to preference for solid colors while the guitar market seems to value figured tops as much as ever. I'd trade out of my Supreme if it could bring back two solid Flys (certain colors) at this point. And what might those colors be?? We might have to talk....

I don't feel the cosmetics or increased weight of an all-maple body necessarily justify asking prices in the aftermarket Agreed, although my taste has changed to preference for solid colors while the guitar market seems to value figured tops as much as ever. The volume and tone pots are 20% tolerance units. That's substantial and could easily explain all of the difference you're hearing. In fact, I'd bet everything on it being the electronics loadouts. For example, see this thread: https://guitarnuts2.proboards.com/thread/7171/pot-values-load-pots https...

What is the fretting surface like? Does it buzz or choke out anywhere? What about string alignment, neck relief, action, string gauge, spring gauge? I'd be looking especially close at those things.

The big tax issue is the new 1099-K reporting requirements for online marketplaces since they'll report unadjusted gross sales as income at a threshold of $600. Reverb is working fairly hard to reverse this which tells you everything you need to know in terms of how great they think it's gonna be fo...

When people post a dusty black deluxe it's hard to tell if they're getting the color name correct or just pointing out they couldn't be bothered to wipe the guitar down before taking photos.

Jeff Beck's Fly sold for about $4,000 USD hammer price, but that's before the 26%+ in fees they charge.

What's going on with your guitar? The listing is still up but has been altered: This used Parker Fly Custom Shop Lime Green 1 of 5 Electric Guitar has been tested and is fully functional in good overall condition. This model's at this price due to a few factors - no case hard, knobs are not original...

Was this still in the moratorium period when you bought it hence needing the runner for pickup? If so I'm kind of curious about how that works. I would have assumed they put restrictions on the pick-up person.

It reminds me of this Tversky quote about his research on the "hot hand" in basketball: I've been in 1000 arguments over this topic. I've won them all, and I've convinced no one. It sort of feels that way most of the time, but the bigger point is that the people who can figure it out are b...

If you hear differences between two solid body electric guitars, it's almost certainly not attributable to the body wood. There are many reasons they may sound different but the type of wood used for the body isn't one of them. It's just one of those things that we all believed for a really long tim...

I actually talked to Ed Roman for quite a while over the phone about 20 years ago seeking parts for my Steinberger. The most charitable way I can say it is that he was a serial exaggerator / fabricator and not a person I'd ever do business with. He died in 2011 but there's no chance I'd give any bus...

The butterscotch Fly Artist is beautiful and the one I always wanted. It's such a clean look that flatters the lines of the guitar, and I don't think $5k is too out of line for a rare instrument of that quality if everything checks out. The other listings are laugh tracks.
