Re: Fly Neck Setup - Action, Frets and Cleaning
I've check in with Ken and Cameron: they check relief at about the 4th/5th fret—the 5th fret is about halfway to the 12th fret, which is why he chooses to check at the 5th because "as the string gets shorter it needs less relief". Interesting. So .007” @ 5th with 1&12 depressed. Thank...
Re: The itch
Having the step stop toggle and external balance wheel is great - so much easier. What is the reason that Parker switched from conical to flat fingerboard after USM acquisition? Just cost stavings? Has anyone noticed a relationship between balance tension and buzz/unwanted resonance? On both of my F...

Re: Fly Neck Setup - Action, Frets and Cleaning
That sounds amazing, great playing. Those are beautiful instruments.
Was that relief measured with frets 1,24,12? I recall seeing something about Ken measuring @ 9th.

Re: Fly Neck Setup - Action, Frets and Cleaning
I looked at my notes from a conversation I had with Ken a few years ago. Ken and I speak regularly about projects, and from time to time, he entertains my questions about the Fly and I write whatever he says down, so that I can organize and memorialize it here on FlyClone. We also spend an unusual ...

Re: Fly Neck Setup - Action, Frets and Cleaning
The intention was to give the neck the correct shape ("zero-relief" as Marc pointed out) at the factory. Here's a fun fact from @Ken Parker: the guitars were strung up and the relief was adjusted before the carbon fiber strip and fiberglass layer were applied! So that shape of the neck wa...

Re: Action
Thank you, I will reach out to him!
Re: Action
**Neck relief is measured with a straight edge or by pressing the first and last fret and the relief is the middle point between the first and last fret So 1 & 24 held and measure @ 12? .012mm is exactly twice what the standard recommended ‘electric guitar’ relief. Where did you get that measur...
Re: The itch
The ‘98 arrived and is, indeed, pristine. As stated in sale, the only blemish is a small scuff on top of headstock.
Intonation, string height, relief are perfect. No buzz anywhere. Quite pleased to say the least.

Re: High fret
If this was my Fly, I would consider what @billy wrote, and make sure that the fretboard isn’t lifting. I would also take/send the guitar to an excellent tech that has experience working on Flys for a setup and assessment before it goes out to get plek’d. Yeah, that is a wise course of action. I’ll...

Re: Total Refurbish of Trashed Fly Deluxe
How did the refurbed fly turn out?
Re: High fret
If chipping is due to sloppy playing (pushing string off board) - would I be safe to not treat the fretboard, assuming that string never slips over fretboard? The frets are all intact. Is the best course of action to apply superglue, sand, then send out to PLEK? Plan to send it out in near future (a...
Re: High fret
I’ve been there - Three of the six Flys I’ve owned needed fret work to get dialed in where I wanted them to be. Please let us know how it works out. And in case the person PLEKing your Mojo isn’t aware before measuring, your 2011 Fly fretboard should have a constant 14” radius that will be very str...
Re: The itch
However, that store relisted it with same condition I saw that earlier today. Disappointing to say the least. They have that one single image on there that doesn’t show any of the damage, and then there’s no mention at all of anything being wrong with the instrument; that’s outright dishonest. Sham...
Re: The itch
I returned the ‘97 to GC yesterday and explained the condition not matching. The manager expressed his surprise that it had been listed as ‘great’ given the condition. However, that store relisted it with same condition specified: https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Parker-Guitars/Fly-Deluxe-Solid-Bod...
