Re: Guide: Fly Sustainiac Installation

Great guide; and I'm happy to prod projects! I'll probably tear a few more pots up to see if a good detent scheme is floating around.

This has also reinvigorated me to finally order my single toggle control boards for my own sustainer and see that project through.

Re: Most trouble-free solution (tracking-wise) for guitar synth?

This just came in guys... There are plenty of settings I will have to spend some time to make it "compatible" with my playing, but, yeah, this will be a very useful tool. Very cool! Yeah I think for any guitarist getting into midi there are some compromises you have to make (learning pian...

Re: Battery kill switch ideas

Not sure what year you've got, but I've considered using the push button from the prerefined as a battery switch as I never really use my piezo and mag pickups at the same time. Similarly, on my refined I use a push pot to do the work. I have some rubber knobs on it that definitely have enough frict...

Re: Most trouble-free solution (tracking-wise) for guitar synth?

I've have two systems currently (triple play & a rmc poly drive -> gp10.) The latter is in a fly and the former a godin. The GP10 is nice since I can run each of the string channels into my daw and do pitch to midi in jam origin per string, or use the onboard midi from the gp10. There's always d...

Re: Gus's Byzantine Fly Mod

How is the sustainer driver performing at that distance from the strings? Of course I hadn't connected my reds and blacks on my sustainer properly... but it works and it definitely has enough gain! I had to turn it down a little bit as well from whatever setting came with. I've some some slight war...

Re: Gus's Byzantine Fly Mod

Thanks! I am a bit picky in my wiring and like things to be clean so I can track things easier when problems come up. As for the sustainer: driver is about 5mm from the strings. I just slapped a battery in and didn't get much of anything, so it needs something but I don't know what yet. My first gue...

Re: Gus's Byzantine Fly Mod

Here's the aforementioned update: The guitar is done except for the new backplate, and testing/powering the sustainer. That part will come in time, once I get around to printing the new backplate. Here are the pictures: PXL_20240204_174255586 (Large).jpg PXL_20240204_174227689 (Large).jpg (just igno...

Re: Gus's Byzantine Fly Mod

After talking to mmmguitar about controlling a sustainiac on a single control, I put together an idea for a circuitboard to balance flexibilty and simplicity for controlling the sustainer with one switch. Taking a Dimarzio 4PDT Three position switch , 3 DIP switches which can be switched by accessin...

Re: 2011 Trans Honey Supreme

From the data sheets, it seems like the pots can come with rotary on/off switch already installed: https://tocos.com/uploads/media/products/0001/01/107133ff922c1f9fe3d79e9447b7bd229c7c0dd4.pdf The ones on the listing you provided and the picture look a lot like those. The white piece seems to indica...

Re: 2011 Trans Honey Supreme

Not to put you off kitbashing, but it likely will be good enough, or just bad enough to get your gears turning. All that being said, I'm curious how the pots are fused in the Belew, and if it is applicable to more available parts. Mostly, I'm curious how the push pull still functions; I didn't think...

Re: 2011 Trans Honey Supreme

my "ideal" scheme would include the Belew switching tone pot; so the Sustainiac functions could be consolidated to a single control - Alas, constructing one is currently a backburner project for me. Well, the cheap version would be to get a dual gang push pull, tear it apart, scratch off ...

Hey @vjmanzo, I would also be interested in a more direct download. I'd like to make a large circuit board and it would be very convenient to have a modeled version to compare with

Re: 2011 Trans Honey Supreme

Before you sell this, I'd love to see the wiring, at least archived here. This fly really fits a lot of my own idiosyncrasies, and I've been heavily inspired by it over the course of my own project. I think I echo your sentiment with the tinkering: it just doesn't become my guitar until I've monkeye...

Re: Gus's Byzantine Fly Mod

Howdy fly folks, it's been a minute! Turns out grad school is time consuming. I'm still chipping away at my fly though (almost literally!) In the time since my last post I've done the needed woodwork on the guitar and am in the middle of wiring it up! Something useful for those of you who are going ...

Re: Gus's Byzantine Fly Mod

Looks like a solid set of choices. You won't be sorry about choosing RMC. I think you can skip the S2. Synth/Mix/Guitar switch... I considered it! But I've got two switch holes there, and without it, only one of them is used. In this case, I decided that it is easy to add that control on, and if I ...

Re: Gus's Byzantine Fly Mod

After almost a month, I'm back. As an update, I've got about all the parts I want for the project, other than some last idle thoughts rolling around in my head. I've received my Sustainer and I ended up ordering a Polydrive from RMC, which was an old shcool process but fairly quick for those who may...

Re: “What’s This Worth?” Thread

If it's up in a year from now I'd love to be the person who'd actually play and enjoy it but not for the "join em" reverb price ;)

That being said, I'm sure you could "lift" some language of how you'll never see one of these again or whatever ballyhoo those 20k listings have.

Re: Tangerine Belew P808330 (lots of text and photos)

Ah makes sense. Seems like a lot of work, given you probably have the thread the baseplate to get those to properly hold it . Especially for something you set once and forget about. All that being said this Belew has definitely made me think alot about what's achievable technology to throw onboard a...

I ask simple because while talking to Alan, he brought up an old stock driver which was apparently for the fly:

But yes, it didn't seem immediately better than just using tape.

Re: Tangerine Belew P808330 (lots of text and photos)

Not to bring you into the process of tearing that guy apart, but I'm curious how they ended up mounting that sustainer in there. When you do get there on this guitar, I'd love to know.
