Re: nitefly battery box

Hi ahron2021 , I think that this would do the trick, but it’s hard to know for sure if it will fit your NiteFly: https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-BATTERY-COVER-BOX-WITH-QUICK-CONNECT-END-FOR-WASHBURN-PARKER-US-CUSTOM-SHOP-/173874046262?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286 It’s an OEM part for sure; might not ...

Re: David Bowie play's FLY on 50'th birthday

Great info, Browndog Owner ; thanks. I recall seeing Reeves playing a Fly (Deluxe?) without magnetic pickups, but I can’t remember when that was exactly; it was striking because it was a vibrato-equipped Fly but without mags (like the Fly Concert). Of course, if you search Reeves+Fly you get some va...

Re: First Parker Rig....

Hi D8th ; thanks for this rig rundown! Sounds like a great setup; those Johnson amps are great! Sorry to hear of the needs for a lighter instrument, but great to hear that it rekindled your interest in the Fly! Welcome to the forum; glad you’re a part of this! What do you think of the Fly through th...

Re: DiMarzio custom pickups

Great to hear, @TalM! The NYXLs are great!

Yeah, it’s pretty wild: you can get significantly different sounds just by trying out different strings! Way cheaper/easier to experiment with new sounds than buying pickups.

Re: Fly Nuts through the years

Good info, TalM ; I believe that’s the last nut pictured in the photo in the original post. A quick search of the part number yielded this . I have had that nut on two Flys; one of which I swapped when we were doing the 12-string Fly ; there’s nothing bad about it, in my opinion. I think the differe...

Nah, I think Marc said it best when he said “once you do it and have that “Ah ha!” moment, it’s cake.”

Re: Fly Pickups (Gen 1, Gen 2, and Other)

In general, if pickups are too high, the magnets will pull on the strings while you’re playing, but beyond that, I don’t think there’s a lot that can go wrong.

Go for it! 😉

Re: Fly Pickups (Gen 1, Gen 2, and Other)

I bet professors hated grading your papers. Thanks for all the detailed homework. 🤣🤣🤣 rmora88 , unlike most pickups, turning the screws doesn’t raise or lower the pickup; you have to loosen the screws first and then physically position the pickup at the height you’d like, then tighten the screws ag...

Re: Fly Pickups (Gen 1, Gen 2, and Other)

Ken thinks they were the Blue Velvet's as well, mmmguitar , but he said he doesn't really remember. I have some old records that suggest that the only single-coil pickups being purchased by Parker Guitars at the time were similar to (if not the same as) the NiteFly pickups, so I'd guess the S2/S3 ha...

Glad to know the can be sharpied; are you going to keep those and bore them out?

Re: DiMarzio custom pickups

Understood, and certainly happy to help. The Fly manual recommends D’Addario XL strings, which is what they used to test the Flys at the factory. If your open to changing your string brand, I think you can get a better sound just by doing that. Nothing against Dean Markley strings, but I think you’l...

Re: DiMarzio custom pickups

Gotcha. You saw this thread already about the usual suggestions for conquering Fly flatness? I personally prefer the Gen 1 pickups, but I do have the Gen 2 and the DiMarzio Joe Satriani pickups on some Flys and they also sound nice, but, unless you are changing the magnet, the various winding method...

Re: DiMarzio custom pickups

Hi TalM ; I've ordered from them before without issue. I know they still do it, but I believe they are still playing catch-up and putting out all sorts of supply-chain disruption issues a la COVID. Are you just looking for a set of Gen 1s? Maybe try posting a "Want to Buy" or "Want to...

Re: Marc Wants To Buy...

Hopefully not a trend that lasts. With more people coming here and gaining knowledge, perhaps the market of buyers for Parker Flys becomes one that is more informed. Thanks, ahmadimran ; that's a great sentiment. There is quite a bit of misinformation out there about Flys; I know that that's disapp...

Re: Springs

Interesting to see so many asks for 10s, makes me wonder if the 10s are just more popular, more prone to failure, etc. Good thought! It turns out that all springs will eventually get a microscopic (literally) tear at some very specific points, which, ultimately, will cause them all to fail with rep...
