Re: Question about the eq controls on the Fly Bass
…use only the piezo pickup for the most part. How great/useful is that piezo, right?! The blend control for the magnetic pickups was an interesting design decision—I didn’t really get the practicality of it at first, but now it’s actually one of my favorite features! The piezo is great! And the des...

Re: Question about the eq controls on the Fly Bass
There's no explicit mention to it in the manual, but the upper knob seems like a low-pass filter that cuts the high frequencies when lowered, and the lower of the two knobs seems like a high-pass-filter that cuts the low frequencies when lowered. So, it seems like having both knobs turned fully clo...

Re: Question about the eq controls on the Fly Bass
For posterity's sake, we're referring to what the FB-4 manual refers to as the "Stacked Magnetic Tone Controls": Correct 😊 Could be you're right. I guess it should be possible to test as doing both anti-clockwise should make the sound very different than for a regular cut/boost preamp. Wi...

Re: Question about the eq controls on the Fly Bass
Yes, of course, I totally remember you and the great work you did deciphering the serials! I assumed you were new to the Fly Bass—hence the welcome. 😉 AH, yes, good point 😂 thanks!!! In fact, I have been a Parker fan since seeing Steve Swallow in the early 90s. Was drooling over the "soon-to-b...

Re: Question about the eq controls on the Fly Bass
Yes, that's the case on mine as well. So that's why I wonder if the two band eq for the magnetic pickups are boost only or if they are cut/boost.... Since they are lacking the center detent. Thanks for the welcome 😊 Been here a while though. Did some work on compiling those serial numbers for the ch...

Question about the eq controls on the Fly Bass
I've got this wonderful Parker Fly Bass 5 that I'm getting more and more fond of. It's a fabulous instrument which is both comfortable and responsive. My question is with regards to the eq controls. Normally, preamp controls are most commonly cut/boost with a mid de tent. However, on this instrument...

Re: Springs
Thanks, @MrWalker; we are well on our way, and we will ultimately be able to do this, I have no doubt. The pandemic is certainly not helping our efforts, but, we’re on track toward achieving “new and improved”. Fantastic! Holding my horses then and stay tuned here! 😄 The pandemic is putting the bra...

Re: Springs
mmmguitar , I only have the spring installed. I got my Fly a week ago, and no spare came with it :-) So haven't got anything to trade. Since I'm mainly a bass player and have other guitars, I think I'll ride with the spring I have until it snaps and then block the vibrato if it should become a prob...

Re: Springs
Very excited to read about this project. I know that getting a Fly is a somewhat risky project, since everything is custom made for this guitar and there is no official support for it at all. But at least knowing that someone is making an effort of getting spare parts available is a big relief! :-) ...

Re: What replacement parts would be highest on your list to buy?
Firstly, congrats! Is the bar/fitting hex shaped or round? Thanks!! :-) It's the round bar, not the hex. I've located a couple sellers on reverb that seems to sell them, and also the shapeways page, but seems they aren't available at the moment. Also, I'm in Norway, so there's a bit of shipping inv...

Re: What replacement parts would be highest on your list to buy?
I just bought my first (and probably only) Parker Fly (yippi!!!). The vibrato bushing is of course broken, but there was a replacement bushing in the case, so I might try that. So vibrato arm bushing and springs are what shows up on my list of parts that I'm in the market for. Other than that, my Pa...

Re: PB basses serial numbers?
Thanks for confirming it! So there are two ways of getting the info. A) Dig for hours on end B) Send an email and ask I KNEW there was an easier way! :D :D :D But more importantly, I learned a lot about Parker and have an understanding of what US Music Corp tried to do. And in fact, I'm impressed!

Re: PB basses serial numbers?
I did the same for some P-series guitars, and after 2004 they follow the same serial number pattern as the basses (which is perhaps logical, as they are probably built at the same facility). So at some point, the P series guitars changed from the serial number with a P-prefix to the 8 digit serial n...

Re: PB basses serial numbers?
I googled these models, and found a few ads where I was able to read the serial numbers. The list is below. PB41: 06020042 PB41: 06020059 PB41: 06020065 PB41: 06020071 PB41: 06020075 PB41: 06072937 PB41: 06082569** PB41: 06082531 PB41: 06112315 PB41: 06112337 PB41: 06112349 PB41: 06113343* Pb61: 070...

Re: PB basses serial numbers?
Yes, that may be true. I'm also wondering if they could have used a Washburn scheme, as I guess the imports were produced at the same facilities as US Music Corp was already using in Asia. In which case the first 1-2 digits are usually production year. The PB basses were produced only a few years, f...

PB basses serial numbers?
I was wondering if anyone has a description of the PB series basses serial number? It's an 8 digit code. My friend just purchased one with the serial number 07080709

Re: Parker Hornet Bass??
The Hornet basses were introduced in, 2006 with the P41, which had a body made out of urethan and neck made of maple. It was followed in 2007 by the PB51 and PB61, which was pretty much identical except for the flame maple top for the first and spalted maple top on the second. They were more traditi...

Re: Parker Fly, NiteFly, and Fly Bass Serial Numbers
Referring to the Fly Bass History document, the first Parker Fly basses (they used the same scheme as the Nitefly guitars) produced in Wilmington at the original Parker facility headed by Ken himself, used a 7-digit serial number, of the scheme MMYYSSS, where MM = month, YY = year and SSS = producti...
